There is a certain gratuitousness to the extremely graphic sex in this movie, but there are worse things to be gratuitous about. This movie was compelling in the way it created an atmosphere of murky inescapable doom.
The story shows human identity as being defined/imprisoned by our desires, drives and passions. Unsettling and strangely compelling.
