Review of Stranger by the Lake (2013) by Matt T — 23 Feb 2014
"Contains strong real sex" claimed the BBFC when the 18 certificate flashed up at the start of Stranger By The Lake. And it does, it's not the sort of film that you want to see with your gran.
Stranger is a story of murder and sex on a French lake. It's engaging, the sex isn't THAT shocking (we've all had a bit of 'How's yer Father' at some point, haven't we?). The violence, which mostly comes in the last reel is though quite jarring, and realistic. Stranger by the Lake is a murder mystery that happens to feature gay men, ctruising for sex. I'm sure though at some point it will get the Hollywood treatment that will inevitably dilute all of the shocks.
