Review of Strangeland (1998) by Patrick S — 28 Apr 2009
By all accounts this is a bad movie with poor writing, acting ranging from over-the-top to wooden to horrid and poor story construction proving that Dee Snider should stick to Twisted Sister and being a talking head on anthology shows, even if he is too harsh on a couple of the W bands and the unplugged thing...watch Hour 3 or 4 of Heavy: The Story of Metal as shown on VH1 and you'll understand. And the gore doesn't go far enough for that to be fun at all.
But this movie has one really awesome and thought-provoking idea wedged between the dreck. What if the a serial killer, someone like Jason Vorhees for example, was arrested, found not guilty due to insanity, treated in a mental institue and released to the public when he was deemed fit to re-enter society. What would happen then? Would he be trusted? Will he be left alone as a figure of fear? Of course not, he attracts a mob lead by Robert Englund himself and then he when goes out for vengance the movie goes back to sucking...but man what a great idea and that's why I'm being way too kind to this.
PS: Wow, Dee Snider and Robert Englund were jacked in this movie.
