Review of Straight Outta Compton (2015) by Tor M — 12 May 2016
When I was younger and got into music, Dre was my favorite. I'm a bit too young to belong to the middle of the N.W.A.-hype, but it's without doubt a big group for hip-hop, and music in general. When movies like this comes out - a film where you know parts of the story, there is a big chance of failure. For me this was a very solid film.
It took me back, it seemed very correct as I know the story and the casting was incredible. Maybe not so weird when Cube's son plays his dad, but other parts are very good too. Tupac, Easy-E, Suge, and plenty of others look almost as the real deal. When that's said, they're acting was not the strongest part of the film. The more experienced Paul Giamatti - one of my favorites is doing well as their manager. That's need a mention.
So, I get a wide story well told , solid scenes, big moments and I feel every second of it. It looks good, without doing much extravagant. I'm surprized in a way how much I enjoyed it, even with certain add-ons and intensity triggers. This was a nice piece of rap-history, retold on film.
8 out of 10 dudes with attitudes.
