Review of Straight Outta Compton (2015) by C W — 11 Aug 2016
Being a huge fan of hip hop especially the early 90's late 80's, I came into this movie with a ton of knowledge from that era. Unfortunately this movie seemed to be incredibly biased against Eazy E.
It went into the Dre Day/No vaseline disses but forgot to mention Eazy's real mutha**ckin g's, which went in on Dre. It doesn't help that the movie is directed by longtime cube collaborator F Gary Gray.
It also got very wrong the fight at thenew music seminar between Ice Cube and the Lench mob and Above the law, where Ice cube got his ass handed to him. All of the historical inaccuracies aside, I just felt the movie was edited by a third grader.
It jumps all over the place and puts in scenes that add nothing to the overall movie, like the bye felicia scene, that was totally pointless, unless you desperately needed to see titties. Average historically inaccurate film that is only save by a great performance by Ice Cube's son, who is spot on as Cube, and Paul Giamatti, who is always good in whatever role he takes on.
