Review of Storytelling (2001) by Jason D — 31 Jan 2008
This is another excellent entry from Todd Solondz that conveys a bitter and dark reality that people know exists out there, yet they are too afraid to embrace it. The characters, pretty much all of them, are unlikable which is what I think Solondz was trying to do.
The shorter "Fiction" story serves as more of an appetite in preparation for the much more powerful, engaging, and humorously twisted "Non-fiction" which is highlighted by great performances by both John Goodman, Paul Giamatti, and a slew of others.
This is a powerful collection of stories that are, for once, better seen than read.
