Review of Storytelling (2001) by Graham B — 24 Mar 2009

I am a fan of Solondz. And I had heard this was his worst effort. And after watching it, it was his worst. Though I haven?t seen Palindromes, but it can?t be this bad. Can it? I know I am in the minority for Flixster averages in not liking this movie.

The first story really could have been fleshed out more. As a story about how fictional stories warp people?s perception of reality, the stages ?reality? that inspires the ?fiction? really could have used more focus. In contrast, the second story really didn?t need to be as long as it was. It wraps up neatly but wandered everyone without a real emphasis on what the point of the first two people introduced was. There is no impact on their closure. I hope he learned from this for Palindromes. And I wonder if he trimmed the second story and added the missing James Van Der Beek story it would have help it overall.
