Review of Stormbreaker (2006) by Garrett M — 15 Apr 2011
I'm too young to die.
You're never too young to die.
Alex Rider is a fourteen year old that lives with his uncle. Alex believes his uncle is a business man that needs to travel a lot, which is why he has a full time nanny; however, when the uncle turns up dead from a vicious shootout on one of his missions as a secret agent, Alex is recruited to take his place. Alex must quickly learn the ways of a secret agent to complete the mission that killed his uncle.
"What type of people are you?".
"Ones that normally get their way.".
Geoffrey Sax, director of White Noise, Othello, Killer Net, Messiah, Doctor Who, and Circle of Deceit, delivers Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker. The storyline for this picture is awful. The idea that the government would recruit a kid to replace a James Bond type character was a bit ridiculous. The action scenes were mediocre and comprised from several scenes from Jackie Chan movies (the rope fight sequence is in numerous Chan pictures).
"We don't trust him.".
"Why not?".
"We don't trust anyone.".
This movie grabbed my attention because it starred Mickey Rourke. Rourke portrayed a solid villain but the remaining cast (Bill Nighy, Ewan McGregor, Sophie Okenedo, Alex Pettyfer, and Missi Pyle) were just all right in their roles. Overall, this is a poor attempt of a worthwhile children's movie. I don't recommend seeing this movie...even if you are a fan of the above referenced actors.
"It's a fishing village.".
"Nice place.".
"Not for the fish.".
Grade: D-.
