Review of Stone (2010) by Amilcar A — 23 Jan 2011
Not sure how I missed this movie while it was in the theater. Not because it's particularly great or or all the money it made; but who misses a movie with Bobby-D, Ed Norton and a very naked Milla Jovovich.
Stone is a decent movie. Very standard psychological thriller with no real twists or turns other than the very fucked up minds of the main characters.
Stone is a movie about mediocrity. No one in this movie is remarkable in any way. De Niro plays a corrections officer who really does not give a shit, Norton an arsonist with no real motivation and Milla Jovovich is just a misguided soul.
Because this is supposed to be about simple people with simple thoughts, the movie sometimes drags a little bit and fails to ever take your breath away.
I'm not sure Stone could have been better unless some major changes had been made to the plot. There was just not enough juice to make it on pure acting chops.
Stone is certainly entertaining and Milla's gratuitous nudity help a lot. Certainly not a film to get out of your way to watch but a decent rental no doubt.
