There are some fine performances that make the film worth watching but the plot is rather thin. Outside of a very odd prelude that gives DeNiro's character an interesting flawed backstory, there is not much of note in terms of the plot.

The film could easily have slipped into a typical "Cape Fear" cat-and-mouse battle of wits between Norton and DeNiro, but their performances elevate the film above the aimlessness of the script.

It's also nice to see Milla Jovovitch in something other than a Paul W.S. Anderson film for a change. She really does deserve better than endlessly appearing in "Resident Evil" films.
