Review of Stolen (2012) by John M — 12 Oct 2012
Not the worst, but this is pretty low grade, even by Nicholas Cage standards. So after a botched robbery and eight years of prison, a father (Cage) must race against the clock to come up with ten million dollars in twelve hours to rescue his daughter from a crazed former accomplice holding her hostage.
Every so often, Nicholas Cage makes a movie where it is pretty obvious he is just paying the bills, and this is one of them. Honestly, there's just not that much to say about this, because it is that generic.
It's action that you've already seen before, and it's not very well shot. For being an action thriller, it kind of puts you to sleep, because it's so by the numbers (this is from the same guy who directed the sequel to the Expendables).
It's a pretty tame performance from Cage, and it is just beyond me why you wouldn't let him go full nine on a low profile movie like this. It is the type of movie that makes Bangkok Dangerous look good, and it never strives to be anything above mediocre.
With murky plot holes that are around every corner, it is safe to say that this is one you can skip.
