Review of Stockholm (2019) by Aylafutterman — 19 May 2019
All he wanted was a Ford Mustang. There are multiple ways one can go about acquiring a car, but of course, as a last resort you can always rob a country’s largest bank and demand one in return for the safe release of three hostages.
This is exactly how Stockholm protagonist Lars Nystrom came upon one. At first glance, Ethan Hawke’s character seems an amateur bank robber with absurd requests for his negotiators - complete with a “cowboy” persona that an audience easily finds laughable.
However, as a seemingly lighthearted storyline unfolds into a dark and solemn tale based on true events, we bear witness to a most interesting character development of Nystrom; leading both viewers, and the innocents he holds hostage, to consider that there may be more to what meets the eye.
You can decide for yourself.
