Review of Still of the Night (1982) by Jake A — 04 Jun 2017
This psychological thriller tries to emulate the best that Hitchcock gave the world and although it doesn't wholly succeed I like the fact it kept things on the whole grounded without needing to descend into absurdity.
The two leads are great, it looks fantastic (really well shot in many places), I like the minimalist approach towards the score and general atmosphere. The plot and script are pretty flawed though but despite that I was still on the whole engrossed.
There are however much better Hitchcock-esque films out there and I wasn't surprised to hear that this got overlooked and generally unloved.
