Review of Still Alice (2014) by Eric T — 23 Feb 2015
Big screen performance in a TV Movie of the Week drama. If this were the 70's it would have been shown a few months after Sybil. There is nothing in this script that raises it above mediocre. JM may have won the Oscar if she had better dialogue to work with.
A film is not "good" simply because the subject matter or a performance or two is powerful. This seems to confuse most people these days. Take 12 Years a Slave, very interesting and tragic story but the film itself gave the feeling of "been there, done that".
Not to say it wasn't good, it just wasn't groundbreaking or "Best Picture" material. JM deserves a reward, and she will get one. After all, even in a movie of the week, she is Still Juliann.
