Review of Still Alice (2014) by James O — 18 Mar 2015
Holy Crap. After watching Still Alice, I went home and watched Sophie's Choice to lift my spirits.
Still Alice stars Jullianne Moore as Alice Howland and Alec Baldwin as her husband, John Howland and is directed by Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland.
Alice is diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's disease. The movie explores what this disease does to the afflicted and to the ones close to her. The directors did an interesting job at showing us how someone with Alzheimer's may see the world. Blurred scenery to illustrate the feeling of being lost. Julianne and the supporting cast portrays a family dealing with an impossible situation and how each deals with it individually as life goes on.
I don't know if I every need to see this movie again, but I am very glad I saw it this afternoon. Very emotional and powerful.
