Review of Stigmata (2009) by Jonathan B — 31 Oct 2007
No one ruins a movie quite like Gabriel Byrne. He walks around all dark and moody, and that's about it. I can't take him seriously outside The Usual Suspects. Also, the point of this movie (that God wants a personal relationship with you, not one blocked by the bureaucracy and materialism of the Catholic Church) would have been shocking and new 500 years ago before the Reformation took place, but it's pretty much what all Protestant denominations have been saying for a couple of centuries now.
It's still pretty creepy at times, but that's all it has going for it.
