Review of Stella Dallas (1925) by Mack E — 04 Aug 2007
I'm pretty sure it would be impossible to make as effective a film of this kind today. If they tried, I probably wouldn't want to see it. However, to see Stanwyck in Stella Dallas is nothing short of miraculous.
It makes me want to rush out and see a picture of a different era, The Thornbirds. This is a perfect example of the wonderful material that can come out of the classic studio system.
