Review of Stella Dallas (1925) by Rachel B — 12 Oct 2008
I love Barbara Stanwyck. Her performance here is fantastic. But this film is tripe and an exercise in masochism. I can't deal with these films choking on pathos where characters don't communicate with each other.
Also, that whole "poor people shouldn't marry rich" turns my stomach. People who love Stanwyck as a ball of fire should avoid this melodramatic claptrap.
