Review of Steep (2007) by Mel Z — 03 Apr 2008
Extreme sports appeal to me in some weird way, even though I'd never do them myself. I enjoy crazy people do loco things for me, so I don't have to. I guess it's the spirit of exploration, the journeying into the unknown that I crave.
The places are fast running out in the globe to find virgin territories. Well, extreme skiers found some places. These guys, and one woman, jump into a helicopter, or more coolly, climb the mountains themselves, and then shoot down them.
The slopes would kill any normal skier inside a couple of minutes, but these bastards seem to enjoy their activity. In fact, I got the feeling that even amongst the pros, people are dropping like flies in the mountains.
But whatever floats your boat holmes, I am happy if my most dangerous activity will be to decide what brand of nachos I'll buy. It's comforting, though, to know that the spirit of adventuring hasn't died in this complacent, safe world of ours.
Still, I'll leave the mountaineering to the people who know what they are doing, I'll just keep spying on their adventure every time they care to make a documentary of their exploits.
