Review of Steel Dawn (1987) by Kai82 — 28 Oct 2022
I have a soft spot for B movies and liked it because of it. To be fair this movie is not „The Godfather“, a Shakespearean play or Oscar worthy. If you want something like this out of the movie you are at the wrong address like a vegan at a steak house.
However it was entertaining and worthwhile for what it is. The story is set in a post apocalyptic future in the USA. Society has collapsed and the people try to rebuild their life's as good as possible.
The protagonist Nomad is a formerly elite soldiers wanders through the barren lands where he encounters a group of settlers that is harassed by a gang. This is the set up for the story. Some say the story is a bit thin and I agree.
It is a bit of a bit nicer “Mad Max” world with the story of the classical western “Shane” (= Mysterious stranger appears and helps a small community). However it works as a vehicle for the characters.
The characters were entertaining too and made the story worthwhile. To be fair the characters and story are a bit to foreseeable and used tropes maybe too much. I find the sets and costumes fitting for the budget and era.
Overall I repeat my opening statement that it is enjoyable if you like B movies and want to be entertained. A 6/10 seems fine for me.
