A beautiful, intellegent and surreal story of a girl coming of age in the company of ageing bohemians in the Tuscan hills. Liv Tyler's relationship with Jeremy Irons is truely touching. The party scene is a surreal plethora of arty chic, and is the best on screen depiction I've seen of the feeling you get at a perfect Italian party when you've had just the right amount of wine and emotional ambiguity.
