Review of Stay (2005) by Julian F — 16 Aug 2008

The movie began and I absorbed the architecture and great camera angles. So far, so good. I saw Ryan Gosling doing his junkie from Half nelson - not bad. But as soon as I saw Ewan G's half-mast pants worn with sneaker socks, I just couldn't concentrate on the plot or dialogue (which was pretty pretentious and convoluted anyway).

Every time I'd see his white, naked Scottish ankles, I'd giggle and wonder what planet or time zone the costume department were from. And as for the direction, glossy and assured as it was, I got the feeling that Forster had watched a little too much David Lynch.

I'll try to finish it at some point but 'enigmatic' films like this are not my cup of tea.
