Review of Starting Out in the Evening (2007) by Matt C — 28 Jun 2008
As a writer, I found the last scene so compellingly brave. It was both cathartic and redemptive. But, overall, something is missing from this film that I can't quite put my finger on. Perhaps, though, that's it's point.
Nothing in this movie is tidily resolved. What the protagonist does at the end partly sees to that. As another famous novelist once wrote: "The end is in the beginning and lies far ahead." Indeed.
