Review of Starting Out in the Evening (2007) by Rose P — 07 Nov 2008
An aged, ill, and closed-off writer encounters a young woman interested in his work, while his daughter reacquaints herself with an old flame. NYC based film has good intentions in commenting on the death of the art of writing/reading, but the film comes off as more pretentious than anything.
Also, irritating performances from Ambrose, Taylor, and Lester don't help matters and neither does the shoddy camerawork. Langella, however, is masterful as the rigid professor who begins to reevaluate himself and his work.
