Sure, it's not really 'good'...and it's as subtle with its themes as a movie with a cross-shaped machine gun can be ...but I found that the cheesy fun was reminiscent enough of the original for me to give it a pass.
Plus, for a direct-to-DVD sequel the production values are much higher than I'd expect--practical effects-wise, anyway.
