Review of Starship Troopers 3: Marauder (2008) by Jason C — 14 Apr 2009
Definitely better than Starship Troopers 2, but that doesn't take much. Linking back to the first movie was a good idea. Bonus points for brining back Casepr Van Dien. He's as bad of an actor in this movie as he is in the first one, but at least it brings the trilogy full circle.
Jolene Blalock is the only B-list name in this cast, fresh off the set of "Enterprise." Quite amusing to see Rico converted into a Mechwarrior for the "Maruader" program, which didn't show up until the end of the movie anyway, even though the movie is named after it.
Killing off the brain bug from the first movie was a lame 3 minute scene as well as the whole intro and exit of the "super planet" bug or whatever the heck it was. The basis for the plot was good and could have been developed a lot more with good production and a bigger budget, but with what they had, the CGI was cheesy and grainy and the acting was third-rate.
Maybe the next straight-to-DVD movie will have a little more effort.
