Review of Starship Troopers 3: Marauder (2008) by Apollo W — 10 May 2009
A true sequel to the original Starship Troopers, but not a great one. I was a tad disappointed with this film, being the huge fan of the first one. However, I give writer/director Ed Neumeier(writer of "Robocop" and the original "Starship Troopers") credit in what he had to work with, not nearly the budget Verhoeven had to work with in the original being the biggest. It was better than the second film. Positives included the return of Johnny Rico(Casper Van Dien), the satire came back, and the song "It's a Good Day to Die" was a perfect and catchy theme on the attitude of the ones in Federal Service. The negatives though were bad, too many dry spots in the story, not focusing enough on Rico and the new "Marauders" and the warrior bugs didn't impress me. I liked the beginning and the end, the middle was too dry for me.
Overall, A true sequel(forget the second film) and noble effort, but could have been much better with a better budget, better actors and more action.
