Review of Starship Troopers 3: Marauder (2008) by Leo — 16 Jul 2009
Plain and simple, I loved the movie. More so for the fact that it managed to impress me with what seemingly was a $5 dollar budget. Just about any fantasy/sci-fi head knows that sci-fi movies REQUIRE a huge budget. Especially ones that use so much fx. Imagine Transformers done on the budget of a Star Trek episode? Not easy.
It's not for everyone. People keep comparing the ST sequels to the first, which is not fair seeing that the first was designed for cinema action. It had a huge budget. The sequels were straight-to-DVD. That as it is, IF this film got the budget of the first, I believe it would have been actually better. A bigger budget would have meant better fx first and foremost, but secondly they'd have been able to afford bigger actors. Casper and Jolene aside, the acting wasn't that wonderful. While it wasn't horrible, it was a little bit lacking the 'flow' of a bigger movie.
I'm just glad that they got back to the story of the first, and that the characters will remain memorable. I hope and pray that 4 gets some cinema style money...if it ever happens. And that they at least reprise Casper, Jolene and even a few more from the first.
