Review of Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation (2004) by Matthew H — 18 Dec 2007
The follow-up to the massively successful 1997 sci-fi action flick 'Starship Troopers' is quite simply an atrocious film and almost painful to watch at times. It has an extremely tedious screenplay with no life breathed into it with some embarrassing acting.
The special effects were pretty impressive like always...but it's such a shame the film sucked so badly that it doesn't really matter. After the events of 'Starship Troopers', the humans are still fighting their war against the arachnids.
A small squad hides out in a remote abandoned outpost while being hunted by the bugs, but they fail to realise that a bigger threat lies inside as the bugs find a more accessible way of infiltrating the defences.
This is nothing more than a cheesy, useless, lifeless horror drama with the label of 'Starship Troopers' thrown into the title. There is no relation to the previous film (Apart from the concept of the war against bugs.
Heck, even the cliffhanger the first one ended on isn't even addressed here) and it's nothing more than a low-budget gorefest. The characters were dreadfully conceived as well! I couldn't care less about every character that appeared on screen.
If you have seen the first film and you liked it, stay clear of this sequel at all costs. I saw it because I wanted to know what happens next...but boy was I disappointed. A rubbish low-budget made for TV sci-fi plague of a film.
