Review of Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation (2004) by Jordan B — 02 Jun 2010
This earned itself a whole star for the graphics, which were still just okay. The biggest problem with this movie is that it is not Starship Troopers. Its set in the same world, obviously, but its not the same.
First strike: No Casper Van Dien. No sequel should ever move forward without its main character. But beyond that, the whole tone is wrong. The original was a tongue-in-cheek jab at fascism, complete with cheesy acting and not taking itself seriously.
This film has no real message aside from Dax railing about the "glory" of being killed in combat and then being used in a propaganda piece supposedly saying (after his death) "Shed not a tear for me, my glory shines forever!" The acting is actually not too bad, and oddly enough this works against the film--its yet another change of tone.
