Review of Starship Troopers (1997) by Tony F — 20 Jun 2010
Starship Troopers is a sci fi "tongue in cheek" flick that harkens back to the 50's films.
Man vs Bugs.
Take $121 million budget, a talented director in Verhoeven (Basic Instinct, Total Recall, RoboCop, Black Book) and a cast of young good looking actors with realistic bugs and superior CG EFX (even for todays times) and you have a decent test of time cult classic flick.
I really like this film. It takes you through 4 high school grads leaving high school and basic training through various "Federation" diciplines to learn their niche calling and finally into real combat.
Over the top graphic gore to both humans and bugs, incredible concept of bug warfare, decent spaceship renderings and flight simulations...this movie is as good today as it was then in 1997.
Bravo.
