Review of Starman (1984) by Ben R — 18 Nov 2008
John Carpenter's most mature directorial effort minus the overdone campiness of his otherwise known features. A mix between Spielberg's 'Close Encounters' and 'ET', along with James Cameron's 'Terminator'.
The story is simple. Jeff Bridges plays an alien visitor to Earth who assumes the physical body of Karen Allen's deceased husband and she becomes attracted to him as they go on a drive across the country as Bridges must rendezvous with his ship while fleeing the authorities.
Warm and fuzzy at times, but nonetheless satisfying and does not feel long! I think that there was a resulting TV series starring Robert Hayes (from the 1980s 'Airplane' spoofs). A good mix of many gendres and not directly aimed for sci-fi buffs!
