Review of Starman (1984) by Andrew L — 05 Jan 2011
Although the movie has some flaws in it, especially by today's viewing standards, I still found the mix of sci-fi and romance to be very enjoyable. It should definitely be viewed in widescreen format if available as you get 10 times more out the experience that way.
Jeff Bridges and Karen Allen both give terrific character performances, and Bridges' academy award nomination for his role as an alien traveler was well-deserved. Its very cheesy at times which is why the movie is outdated today, but one can't help but care for the two main characters and their goals.
John Carpenter, one of the best horror directors of the late 70's and 80's, shows his diversity with this sci-fi/romance drama.
