Review of Starman (1984) by Daniel M — 07 Mar 2013
John Carpenter's sci-fi excursion, Starman, was a more family friendly affair. Landing in an embryonic state, the interstellar out-of-towner in question quickly evolves, thanks to some awesome latex trickery from legendary FX man Dick Smith, into Jeff Bridges, the dead-husband of a local widow (Karen Allen). Confused interplanetary romance ensues with the bad guy government suits in hot pursuit.
Starman was initially greeted with barely an audience shrug and continued Carpenter's losing sci-fi streak, despite an Oscar (R) nomination for Bridges.
