Review of Starlet (2012) by Frank R — 25 Jul 2013
Good movie that has enough of a sense of reality that it's easy to be drawn into to storyline while rooting silently for both Jane and Sadie to find some solace in each other. There were enough subtle twists that made one feel as if we knew the character well enough to predict their actions with a gentle surprise when the actual result is revealed; thought for sure that Melissa was going to steal the money when Starlet "showed her where it was".
The characters were steeped with enough reality that it made the story that much more interesting and easy to relate with, thinking that we all know someone like that in our real lives (the lost kind soul, lonely older neighbor, crazy friend/roommate that's self-righteously forgetful thanks to booze/drugs, a sleazy boyfriend/girlfriend, etc.
) As another reviewer mentioned, the film could have benefitted from an additional couple of minutes to truly clarify the intentions and outcome of Sadie's revelation, but the ending as is wasn't bad, just a bit of an "and then.
..?" type of moment. Worth watching.
