Review of Stargate: The Ark of Truth (2008) by David E — 31 Mar 2008
This was a big disappointment! Visually, it's stunning - the use of film looks so much better than the HD video used for the last couple of seasons, the costumes, sets and locations are great, the visual effects are awesome.
.. pity the story is so limp and lacking in epic scope. Morena Baccarin and Julian Sands are completely wasted (you don't see them until near the end of the film), and the movie takes the equivalent of a full TV episode to actually get moving.
While the stakes are certainly raised, you never get the feeling that the crew won't survive (no matter how many beatings Ben Browder takes, or how many times the others are thrown around the room by the Ori).
I know the producers were wrapping the Ori saga up with this story, but it felt like a wasted opportunity to tell a bigger, broader story with more attention to the characters, which might have appealed to a wider audience as well as giving fans a more satisfying conclusion.
Let's hope "Continuum" is better.
