Review of Stargate (1994) by Michael H — 14 Oct 2009
A bunch of military guys and a scientist go through a giant metal donut, meet some weird aliens, get attacked by weirder aliens, and they fight back. The end.
This incredibly stupid film is...well, I have to admit what I feel...is kinda fun. Though incredibly stupid. It begins wonderously, and even by the midway point, when it degenerates into shoot-em-up action cliches...well, they're somewhat impressively mounted cliches. Granted, you have to ignore the parts where James Spader clucks like a chicken, or French Stewart tries to act macho, or Kurt Russell speaks in monotone about his backstory (watching on VHS, I thought perhaps he changes his facial expression once or twice, but the great clarity of DVD has shown me that, no, this is not the case). But it's still, you know, kinda goofy fun.
