Review of Starbuck (2011) by Toy D — 22 Apr 2013
IMHO this French Canadian offering is a perfect little film. When I am so drawn into a film with English subtitles, that I forget I'm reading subtitles, I know my reality has been suspended and I've been transported into the world being created on the screen.
Patrick Huard has been added to the shortlist of my favorite sensitive, talented, quirky, engaging male actors (along with Mark Duplass.) Performances from the supporting actors were also wonderful. For personal reasons, the film resonated strongly for me and had me laughing and crying with abandon, which rarely happens for me in a film.
The subject of sperm donor children was handled with humor and sensitivity. I hope director Ken Scott achieves the same level of excellence in his Americanized version of this film starring Vince Vaughn, to be released later this year under the title of "The Delivery Man.
" I purchased the DVD online the day after I saw this film.
