Review of Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017) by Cscuile C — 16 Jan 2018
I've always been in awe of the imagination that drives these stories and loved escaping into this universe to unplug from reality. I find it mind boggling that they decided to turn the richness of the story threads into a bunch of jokes and zany magical powers.
The OT was deeply rooted with a dynamic characters and lore. Rogue One captured the grittiness of war and reign of the empire. Even TFA did Han justice, was well paced, and set the stage for sooo many opportunities to make TLJ great.
I'm not sure why this film was released, it offered nothing. Nothing is worth remembering in this film except how poorly written it was. This is not even worth a second viewing. Good luck salvaging this JJ.
I'm guessing Rian wasn't much of a fan of any of the previous stories. He used a multimillion dollar movie budget and one of the most successful franchises in history as his platform to say, "F all of you fans".
Seems like a business savvy approach. I guess I'm not surprised, it's not like he's created anything worth watching anyway. They should've let Gareth Edwards take the helm, a true fan of the stories, though I'm sure he would've gotten fired for challenging the execs.
Really not interested in any new Star Wars anymore if this is the direction it's going. Sorry Disney...
