Review of Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017) by Trevor M — 20 Dec 2017
I had fun but there are many bad decisions. Johnson was apparently the wrong guy for this middle entry. However, much like the quote in the movie, the light rises to match the darkness to create a balance.
That's fresh for me. There's too much comedy that has been inserted into nearly every poignant scene and it doesn't always work. If JJ had stuck it out we might've ended up with another ESB for better or worse.
The original ideas and subversion of who the legends of Star Wars are is very interesting. Fix the pacing issues, the awkwardness, and the over-the-top humor undercutting emotional scenes, and it would've been so much stronger.
