Review of Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) by Ryan A — 21 Dec 2017
The film did a good job capturing some of the magic of the originals. The prequels gave us more depth to the originals and added some magic of their own. But, as far as the story goes I was disappointed.
Basically the empire was still around with storm troopers, there was still an emperor, a new Vader, a new young person as our new hope, and a new Death Star. That alone kind of throws out everything the previous 6 films story told us about how things rose to power, and fell.
The story before it gave us heroï¿ 1/2(TM)s and villains that had a beginning, middle and end with triumph and closure. So to see that everything is still in turmoil as if the old crews achievements meant nothing was disappointing.
Still it attempted to give some new elements and set up some questions to ask about whatï¿ 1/2(TM)s going on and what will happen next. The new characters were not that interesting and the original heros seemed like old bums.
Again as if the previous films didnï¿ 1/2(TM)t have meaning. Not bad overall but it was too much of a reboot of the first film.
