One of the most creative films of all time, A New Hope builds a world like no other movie has. The plot is simple yet effective, and the characters are endearing and brilliantly introduced. To so seamlessly introduce and entirely new galaxy and the force (literally) that controls it is no simple feat.
Episode IV is not the most purely entertaining installment in the saga, but it delivers as both a standalone masterpiece and the perfect setup to one of the greatest trilogies of all time. This is the movie you were looking for.
