Review of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989) by Alan D — 16 May 2009

God is quite endearing, but star trek: the final frontier is an odd film. its direction (by shatnner himself) has moments of brilliance...and moments were he just seems bamboozled as too where to point the camera. some of it's so dark its difficult too see the actors faces, were as sometimes it carries the atmospheric style of one of the "mad max" movies. there is also return of jerry goldsmiths self indulgent next generationized soundtrack which dose nothing but completely bombard the action. the sets look shabby and poorly made in comparison (to my usual point of reference ) "the wrath of khan" and the whole film generally looks cheep. but it's saving grace for me is its character moments and hear felt narrative, the stuff round the camp fire with bones, Spock and kirk is magical and what star trek is all about, adventure and comrodery. not the worst star trek of them all, but not the best.
