Review of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989) by Tori D — 10 Nov 2009
This may be one of the weakest star trek films, but if your looking for the ultimate weakest, look for Nemisis (five films later). this actually has a good script, and Bill Shatner isn't as bad a director as people say (although, this was enough for him to quit after this one).
being directed by shatner, and following the sucess of IV, this is probably the funniest one, which I really don't think is a problem. it also has the right blend o f action and humor than any of them.
maybe the only thing that's ultimately singled out as bad about this movie is its special effects, done by a hole-in-the-wall company in New Jersey (ILM was unavailable). the highlight of the picture is the opening scene where kirk plunges off El Capitan! GREAT.
Jerry Goldsmith returns to compose his best Trek score since ST:TMP. I dont care if you think star trek shouldn't be funny . . . watch this.
