Review of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989) by Mike S — 14 Nov 2009
This is, by far, the weakest of the Star Trek movies with Kirk and crew. A "passionate Vulcan" hijacks the Enterprise with a clutch of homemade weapons and steers it toward the centre of the galaxy on a quest for "ultimate knowledge".
The plot is devoid of tension, plot points rely on unexpected coincidences, the major characters often behave in ways that seem totally out of character. Even the special effects seem poorly done. The corridors of the Enterprise appear to be borrowed from the sets of the "Next Generation" TV show (which was in its 3rd or 4th season when this movie came out).
Worst of all, the climax makes no sense and leaves raises more questions that it answers. This one is best forgotten.
