Review of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989) by Tony H — 26 Apr 2010
I'll admit to being a big fan of Shatner. I'll admit that I can see some of the points people that don't like this movie have pointed out. it's not great, I'll agree. That being said, I'll also admit that I like this movie.
I've never agreed with the whole "Row, Row you boat" scenes being cringe inducing. Given what had happened to Spock (death & resurrection) he probably was a bit still addled at this time.
There are some cheap shots (Scotty and the "back of his hand") and it does fail at times (I don't care if Sybock was Spock's brother, I can't see him betraying Kirk). I still like it and I still watch it.
And just to utterly blow your mind, I would honestly watch this over JJ Abrams' Trek 11. At least this has the original crew in it. Why does God need a starship? Jim, you don't ask the All Mighty for his id.
Give Shatner his due, he tries to make you think with this one.
