Review of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989) by Ian G — 05 Jun 2011

While there is nothing specifically hateful about this largely forgotten entry into the Star Trek saga, there is nothing particularly entertaining or engaging. The plot has a certain promise as do the philosophical undertones, but the movie suffers from Shatner's amateur and self serving direction and low budget special effects combined with poor editing.

Also, the talents of the ancillary cast (Laurence Luckinbill and David Warner) are clearly wasted. It is palpable to casual and serious Star Trek fans but will probably bore and confound others to some degree.

I would suggest watching it's much better sequel.
