Review of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989) by Jyri L — 30 Apr 2009
Oh my. What happened here?
After a pretty successful three movie series, now the slate is clean to start all new adventures. Then this monstrosity came out and nearly killed the whole Star Trek movie series entirely. I don't know who was in charge of the plot and story but this idea really shouldn't have gotten the green light at all. It had failure written all over it from the very beginning.
Tons of things went wrong with this movie. ILM didn't do the special effects because of budget reasons so instead they went with another company. The result was probably the worst special effects ever in any Star Trek movie made. The editing was also bad. Scenes were slapped together without much thought it seemed like. The movie does have humor, some jokes are good and some are very lame.
Don't spend money to rent this. Just try to catch it on TV if you can. You can even skip this one if you want. You won't be missing much.
