Review of Star Trek: Nemesis (2002) by Alison C — 07 Jul 2012
Not a fan. The Remans were well done. Cool makeup and costumes. Ron Perlman was cool. I did like B4. He was adorably clueless. And I can appreciate the parallels of Data/B4 and Picard/Shinzon. I felt like this movie was very forced and the director treated you like a moron. Shinzon does not need to be bald for us to get that he's a clone of Picard! Several of the scenes had no real purpose in the context of the world of the movie. Those scenes were just there to create tension, action, drama, and sell a little sex. The chase scene in the dessert planet? Pointless. Just there for action. The mind-rape scene? Sex sells. oh and she used that same technique against them later. Karma! WEAK!!!! And Tom Hardy was just terrible. Aside from the scene where he was yelling at Picard when he was strapped up and they were taking blood from him, Tom was overacting and I didn't believe him. Half the time I felt like he looked like a big baby in daddy's space costume. Cool costume, but not on him. He did start to look really cool at the end there. But good grief, I wish he would have dialed it down a bit. Too much.
P.s. they sure don't make The Next Generation movies very accessible for ppl who aren't familiar with the franchise. thanks a lot. had to do a crap-ton of research to make sense of some things.
