Personally I enjoyed it, decent action, moral choices, nature vs upbringing. I dont feel it was flat at all. Yes I"m watching it for the first time many years after it was on the silver screen. I feel it was a good final ending for a cast and crew.
Watch it with an open mind. I think you will enjoy it.
